The Midvale Senior Center is an incredible resource to adults in the Midvale community and the greater Salt Lake area. A key objective of this project included the sustainable re-development of a previously established location. Since its completion has been awarded a LEED-gold certification. The project site is well connected to public transit and is walking distance to many services such as housing, restaurants, grocery, and retail.
Ensign Engineering was brought into the project to help with land development and stormwater runoff. Ensign needed to reduce runoff to help protect the local water quality and minimize the impact on the city’s existing stormwater infrastructure. Ensign is proud to be part of a project that created a new and improved space for community members while maintaining the city’s infrastructure and future development.
Over the years Ensign has completed a variety of projects for Midvale City. These projects have included road improvements and the new municipal center which sits directly north of the senior center. Our ongoing relationship with Salt Lake County and Midvale City allowed us to be part of the Midvale Senior Center.
Given that one of the critical success factors of this site was stormwater mitigation, this site utilized on-site detention where runoff is captured and slowly infiltrates or, if necessary, can flow off-site at the pre-development flow rate. This was done in an effort to match natural hydrology where rainwater tends to infiltrate into the soil.
